Location : The event HQ – and the Start and Finish – are on Calton Hill,,, on the east side of the National Monument.
Travel: Do try to arrive by not car. On foot or bicycle are good. (But there is free parking on Regent Road.)
Registration: On the day, consult the alphabetical Entrants Lists (Race / Challenge) on the advance board to discover your allocated number, then come up the correct channel to collect. Registration will be open by 9am (for both events).
Start-times: 9:45 The Challenge. 10:15 The Race.
Ear-phones: Please do not use ear-plug headphones, as they may prevent you hearing traffic.
Route / Check-points: There is no marked route. The first Checkpoint is at the Castle esplanade; the other 5 are at the tops of the hills. At each Checkpoint you must punch your race-number with the red clippers. (Spot-checks may be made at the finish.)
At the approach to the Castle you must turn left down the steps onto Johnston Terrace (currently there is no access down into Princes Street Gardens West).
The path through West Mains Road allotments will be available for that short-cut.
Refreshment-stations (5): at or near each hill-top, with sponges, water & juice, and sultanas.
The first is at Corstorphine meadow (about 4 miles). The last is in Dalkeith Road, outside the big gates of the Pollock Halls.
Kit: may be left in the numbered black bags in the centre of the arena; if it is very windy, there will be plastic pegs to pin your bag to the ground.
Toilets: Portaloos will be available on site. Please use them; do not piddle in the grass.
First Aid / Medical: First Aid kits are available at each Refreshment-station out on the course. There is a qualified First Aider with full medical supplies at the finish.
Team event: this is for competitors in The Race; 3 or 4 runners per team, best 3 places to count. Fill in a Team Entry form at the forward table, and put it in the tray provided (no additional entry fee). Modest prizes for first two teams and for best all-female team.
Food: Free food and drink for all competitors at the finish.
Results: will be posted on boards near the Registration tent every few minutes as runners complete the course. Official results should be on the website that evening.
Memento: All finishers get a drinks coaster.
Spot-prizes: 10% of the field get a spot-prize, based on race-number.
Prize-giving: 1pm.
The Treble: At the end of the prize-giving, whisky miniatures will be given to all those who have completed the Edinburgh ‘treble’ for this year… The Edinburgh to North Berwick, the (full) Edinburgh Marathon, and The Seven Hills (Race or Challenge).
Merchandise: T-shirts, towels and beanie-hats will be on sale in the gazebo. Payments by cash, cheque or card.
SportsAid Scotland: Part of any financial surplus is donated to the SportsAid Scotland charity, which assists up-and-coming young runners with their training and travelling expenses.
Cancellation: In the extremely unlikely event of cancellation or postponement, all entrants would be offered a full refund.
